Take This Life and Love It or Make Mine Sunny Side Up (choosing joy in every moment Philippians 4:8) Satisfaction Guaranteed: Unshakable: It's not easy staying faithful to God in a culture that promotes just the opposite. Daniel "purposed in his heart" to honor God before he was faced with temptation. There's Something About Merry -
Romans 12:2 says the way to be a transformed woman is to "renew" our minds. It's all about changing our mindset, reframing our experiences and praying the promises God has given us. In this presentation (1 hour or a weekend retreat) Jan explores our potential for joy, and how to trade in our our "stinking thinking" and become genuine "gladfinders," women who look for and find what's good about life.
Finding Neverland
His love is never-ending, it never fails. He will never leave us or forsake us. He never lies, and he is never late. Let's go exploring into the land of God's nevers, and when we return home we'll never be the same. (Can be a movie theme)
The Real You, the Best You: or The Woman Behind the Mask, The Authentic Woman.
Jan draws from the book of Esther and her book, Woman Behind the Mask. This talk is all about getting real, with ourselves, each other and God. Society is a masked ball where we're invited to come as our ideal of the perfect woman, wife, mother, ministry leader. We hide our hurts, doubtes, blemishes for fear of being rejected for who we really are. So let's spend weekend shedding the masks of perfection, learning to walk in authenticity and truth. The real you is the most beautiful you. (Theme decor can be masks, Mardi Gras beads, boas, or go for the SPA theme, the Queen's Banquet, etc. Esther had a whole year, but we've got the whole weekend!)
Passport to Adventure: The Sacred Journey
The Christian life has been likened to a journey. What does it mean to walk with God? We'll explore it this weekend as we learn to pack light, pack right, enjoy the unavoidable detours and blaze a trail for others to follow.
The word “contentment” comes from the root word “contain.” All we need for true satisfaction in life is already inside us. So often we get trapped into chasing happiness measured by the dip stick of circumstances. Let's identify the bugs of discontent and zap them.
In the Wizard o
f Oz, Glinda tells Dorothy, "Just follow the yellow brick road..but never let those ruby red slippers off your feet, not for a minute or you'll be at the mercy of the wicked witch." When Jan watches this movie she's reminded that those ruby red slippers represented Dorothy's extraordinary power in obedience.
"Have yourself a merry little Christmas," is a ballad written for an old classic film about a family in the midst of major life change. But when Judy Garland saw the original lyrics (Have yourself a merry little Christmas, it may be your last...) she refused to sing them. "This is too depressing," she said, "I want to sing a song about hope." So the director ordered the song re-written, and it's now one of the top ten holiday ballads of all time. Jan's Christmas message is about what it means to have a truly merry Christmas, no matter what, to focus on the hope we have in Jesus.
